I don't have a PAL either. I used to have a FAC. If I get a PAL do I have to tell them I already own guns?
Will the government throw me in prison if I don't get a PAL and they find out I am a gun owner?

Unfortunately, yes you would be. A lot of the firearms "paperwork" crimes are built into the criminal code of Canada, resulting in major charges if your PAL lapses. There is a question on the PAL application on whether you already have firearms (I believe this was a carry over from the ability to upgrade from a POL to a PAL). Simple answer, just go get your PAL, and then dig out your rifles. FAC's used to be for life, I'm surprised you weren't automatically rolled into a POL (similar to what used to happen when PAL's expired with no renewal processed). As to whether they would throw you in jail, worst case scenario, yes they would. You would be considered in unauthorized possion of firearms, which is criminal code...They'd also take them, but its unlikely they would just do so quietly....
