A decent resource for actual recoil figures is posted here:

That being said, recoil is always subjective to the user, the actual rifle model, and the variables of the cartridge being used (specific reload data and bullet weight). I think the 270 is, ballistics speaking, a nice round. Its a relatively modern development, high muzzle velocity, and proven to have a better trajectory than the larger rounds you mentioned (obviously, the lighter the bullet itself, the higher the velocity, the less fall off at all distances, thats just simple physics). But, it is a hot round so the perceived recoil will be quite "snappy" if that makes sense, and for a kid may not be very comfortable to shoot, especially with the fact you specify you want a lighter rifle (tikka t3 comes to mind...)
If your boy can handle the recoil on your .300, he may be quite ok with the 270 as long as he isn't shooting all day. If he wants less recoil with the same stopping power go with 30-06, if you want cheaper shooting go with the .308. If you want a suggestion on another round that will still fit the AB regulations for big game (nothing smaller than .223), you can consider a 25-06 which is a decent all purpose round that is a milder shooter. I wouldn't take a moose with anything smaller than in the .3xx ranges though
