The "intactivists" obviously have strong beliefs about this, though, and I'm not sure their commentary is 100% accurate. Mothering.com (I'm laughing a little referring to this very mom-centric natural/attachment parenting site on CP but whatevs) has a response that I prefer a bit, though I won't link to it as there's a graphic image at the top and I don't want to freak anyone out - but it's currently on their main page.
Anyhow, I am honestly surprised by the announcement but I think it's important to note they don't go so far as to actually recommend the procedure. I think the take away is that there can be some health advantages to circumcision in some cases - but there is still no overwhelming evidence as to which is better from a public policy perspective. And we'll see what the Canadian Pediatric Society recommends in future too.
For the record, my two boys aren't circumcised and I am still very comfortable with that decision based on the evidence. We won't circumcise any future boys either. But I know that some families prefer it and that's fine.
As a woman, I will say that other women do sometimes make comments about uncut guys. However, that's an entirely cultural/perception thing, and as the majority are not circumcised, I think that may change. It's also not a comment you hear a lot or anything and is generally not a concern assuming the guy is keeping things clean.
