I'd been one of the biggest haters since about 5 seconds after the big "world-wide debut" of Enter Sandman on MuchMusic 23 years ago. I know all about throwing up in my mouth a couple years later when they cut their hair, and essentially never listening to anything post-Justice, but Death Magnetic was a great album. I'm not sure it would fit anywhere in between Kill em All, Lightning, Puppets or Justice, but it certainly sounds like the album we should have had in 1990, instead of the one we got.
Beyond Magnetic is even better.
Saying they don't belong in a metal thread will get you a few thanks from people who haven't really given their last two albums a chance, but it's no longer true. I just saw them in Edmonton, and those motherf***ers are going out the way they came in. The prodigal horsemen are back.
