Hmm... I went to the emergency room and did not have my insurance card. Just so happened I changed wallets and did not put all of my cards in that morning. They told me to go to another hospital....I told them to call Blue Cross. When my insurance was verified they admitted me. Triage thought I coud have a staph infection, so yes it was serious. False alarm fortunately.
That's not the first time that happened. So I really don't understand how illegal aliens manage to get treated. I'm sure the situation is different if you're bleeding to death. And yes, in one case it was a for-profit hospital. And yes, I had to give them my VIsa card ;(
