Is is fair to say that a Nintendo DS version of a game would be about as difficult for a small child as a comparable Nintendo Wii or Xbox game?

Mrs Rathji wants to buy our 5 year old a DS for her birthday, but she really doesn't grasp the concept of any of the games we have already, save some of the mini games in stuff like Mario party. She claims he games are more kid friendly on the DS but I am thinking that we are better off with iOS games on her iPod.
