He also brought us to a real 3 party system in Canada. While I disagree with a lot of the NDP's platforms; I do like having that other perspective to keep the gov't in check.

And there's also a possibility that the Liberals could merge INTO the NDP. Who would have thought that? The Liberals? A party that never finished 3rd? Three consecutive majorities under Chretien? And there would be a possibility that that party could die and merge into the NDP who they mocked for decades?
Layton accomplished that. Even if they don't merge, just the thought of it is mindboggling.
