A Calgary production company has cleared a major hurdle in an ambitious plan to launch three specialty TV channels that will focus on movies, crime and the supernatural.

Larry Day, president of Pyramid Productions, said the Canadian Radio-Television Commission granted his company the three licenses earlier this summer. He hopes to start selling the channels to satellite and cable companies by the fall to be made available to viewers through subscription.

“We have to convince distributors to put us on the air,” Day said. “We’ve already put together some tentative schedules. We’ve put together business plans for the three channels and an operating plan. . . . It’s new territory for us. But it’s sort of part of our long-range thinking about what we’d like to do.”
