They had like 4 or 5 smaller Eps and LPs before they started to get recognition and now they are blowing up. It actually gives me hope for music that bands like them and Jack White are gaining more and more popularity. I would disagree. There will always be rabid support for pop-rock like what Nickleback does and that's a trend I don't see changing. People act like they ruined music, but since I've been listening to music (probably 25 years) there has
always been a band in the popular sphere "ruining" music. For this reason I don't see it ending anytime soon. I think bands like the White Stripes are just a result of people on either side of the bell curve getting annoyed by what's popular, and I think that is also a constant reaction to the popular music of the day.
The Black Keys are a very interesting example to bring up. Their music appeals to the crowd that rages against NB (they've even ripped on them in the media I think), yet they've also publicly backed behaviour that many would classify as selling out such as selling music to a marketing campaign.
