I was talking to a guy who was a bouncer at the BC policeman and firemans ball. He said they are all weed and coke fiends, which didn't really surprise me, I've been hearing that for years. My mom had been an ER nurse for 20+ years, which means she deals with a LOT of cops, and she couldn't refute my hypothesis that cops are largely pushy a-holes with a badge. Think about it, if you were a pushy a-hole with a chip on your shoulder, what better job could you ask for than to be a police?
On the plus side, I've read that 90%+ of police convictions are dependent on confessions, these guys are only in the business of picking the low hanging fruit. If you have no priors, 'yes sir' 'no sir' 'it never happened' and 'it will never happen again' will get you out of trouble for anything less than a major crime. If you're ever being harassed by a cop, a little "what's your badge number and the name of your commanding officer" turns them into model police in a jiffy.
Of course, there are many good cops in Calgary, my point is: don't expect a lot out of them.
