This probably won't be a big help but...

My brother in law used to run a custom long gun company in Montana, and I recall him transporting all his stuff from Alberta by completely disassembling them and carrying them in 2 separate loads. Something about one part not being able to be transported with the rest.

I assume the rules are similar coming from the US to Canada,
