On that point I agree with you. Whether or not there are laws requiring that she receive jail time for this is pretty well up to the community she lives in and how they set their rules, but it seems way too punitive to me.
Although what she did was a massive violation of trust and extremely damaging to her school and colleagues, that doesn't warrant jail time in my eyes. She deserves to lose her job immediately and probably to never work as a teacher again. Beyond that, I could see the school wanting to pursue damages for what she did, but time in jail is unwarranted.
