I think this has the potential to bust for United, 24m for a 29 year old with a very big injury history, but if healthy him and Rooney should work great together
it definitely hurts Arsenal though
relying on 3 players now who weren't in England last year (in a league where many players take at least a year to adapt)

I think its stupid for both of them.
For one, as you stated, long-run this is a lot of money for Van Persie. Short term it might work out great depending on injuries, but he is 29 and oft-injured. They might only be getting a couple big seasons out of him.
But if he even remotely repeats last season then it might be worth it.
As for Arsenal, they are patently window-licking ######ed for selling him to United. From my perspective Wenger is a straight-up moron for doing this.
First of all, this makes United better and Arsenal worse right away and these two teams are likely competing neck and neck for everything. What if they meet in the Champions' League and its an RvP goal that knocks Arsenal out? Wil the money have been worth that?
They're competing for (arguably) the league, top 4 spots and the CL, they could conceivably meet in the FA and Carling cups and Champions' League.
It would be like Calgary trading Iginla to Vancouver for nothing and having him light us up 6 times a year keeping the Flames out of the playoffs.
