I don't know, I just hope this overall system doesn't ruin things. Then again, they had Backlund rated at 81 and I'm not sure he should be rated that high. Nothing against Backlund, but he's not THAT good.
its a two way street unfortunately. the good news is that his player style will have no bearing on his overall. glencross will simply be rated as a winger. whether he is listed as a power forward or grinder or anything else, his overall rating is based on his ratings points. its good in the sense that you know where players stand in relation to each other.

this year, snipers often have high overalls even though their overall point totals arent as good as most other player types. thats why when i am looking at making deals, i total up the attribute ratings in each section and overall to help me decide. what i usually found is that a sniper thats rated 85 will have drastically less ratings points than a TWF that is listed as an 85 overall. so to me, it helps simplify things because you can most safely assume that if you are trading an 85 for an 83 that you are getting an upgraded player.

to me the downside is that it will cause some role players to get overlooked. bringing back the sniper example or even a tough guy, they can have a niche but may not get signed because their overall is lower. in the parros example, a lot of people might look right past him because he is only 69 and most of the time rosters have 80's and above for the nhl.

for me, the benefits do outweigh the downsides. not to mention, they had pretty much always done it that way until a year or two ago.
