You certainly have my sympathy on that front.
However, I don't understand why you're going on about "we don't know all of the facts". Obviously that is true. I can say from experience that, even after a weeks long trial in superior court, with all of the complex rules of evidence, and dozens of witnesses (which obviously this matter is very unlikely to proceed to), all thoroughly cross-examined, we often don't know all of the facts. However, your suggestion that Ferland should get a break because he is a young hockey player is based on one of the very few facts that we do know for certain: Ferland is indeed a young hockey player.
In any event, I don't disagree that sometimes people need to be cut some slack. I just think that slack-cutting should be done on a principled basis, and "he's a young hockey player" isn't one of the principles that I would suggest.
