I was just chillin', living the supreme parasite life, here in Airdrie and a thundering jet was passing over, so I peeked outside and it appeared to be a C17.

Definitely not an Antonov... tail characteristics were wrong. I was doubting it's C17ness, as I didn't know Canada had any, but a quick Google search tells me we have 4.
Welcome to the year 2008.

437 Sqd. has been fully operational with four airframes for years now...thanks Harper. We needed this capacity in the worst way.
I'd really like to see us buy a couple more for that matter...and get another half a dozen 130J's tacked onto that purchase (17 aiframes/ deliveries are ongoing ATM) as well.

Our future committments are almost guaranteed to be "logistically challenging" and dumping money into the coffers of Ukraine (everytime another An-124 lifts off from Trenton) is pissing away our tax dollars for no tangible result.
The F-35 gets all the press lately but we're (finally) spending money to fix some very embarassing shortfalls with our airforce.

Also FYI? Our currently operational CF-18's are "hot-rodded" to the maximum capacity of the platform...another multi-Billion Dollar programme that few know about.
They are not a pile of "clapped out", 30 year old museum pieces. The upgraded machines are the ones that were pulled off the line when we got out of Europe,
and most of them were parked in Mountainview for ten years. The F-35 aquisition will dovetail in nicely with the end of the life of these airframes if it meets schedules...which it will.
