Yeah, it's silly to play the fuel consumption game if you're wasting money elsewhere. I saved 30k off the price of my car by buying it 4 years old instead of new (and I doubt most people would be able to tell the difference...it had 18k on it). I don't care what kind of electro hybrid solar car you're driving, you're not going to save 30k of gas over the life of that car.
Btw, I think it's ok to want a new car even if it doesnt make sense. Car decisions rarely ever make the most practical sense....we buy what we love and justify it afterwards.
