Those that are, in general, against "redefining" marriage are against it for religious purposes. The monotheistic religion they subscribe to sets the "spiritual" rules for marriage, and also what type of sexual behaviour is morally right or morally wrong. If someone's religion (or at least those belonging to that religion that hold religious authority) states marriage is between man and woman, and that relations between men is morally wrong, it doesn't take a genius to conclude that they are against "redefining" marriage to allow gays to marry because they believe gay relations are morally wrong.
