Essentially, only a small percentage of people in any large hobby are enthusiasts. Games are mainstream now, and casual gamers are as a result a huge market now. The question is, will they find this console at all, and will they care enough to buy it? Does the big screen have a special draw to these people?

You and your friends are not even close to defining the gaming market though. Look at the Call of Duty franchise - each game in the series is capable of generating over 1 billion dollars in sales. The people who want AAA titles are not in any way the small hobbiest segment of the market anymore. It's as mainstream as Hollywood movies (and many titles and game studios outperform their Hollywood counterparts)
