I agree with large portions of this review. Don't agree with his take on Bane. He looks imposing enough.

Really wanted to like the movie but it's mostly a mess with some good one-offs. Who would have thought that Hathaway would be the strongest part of the movie?

Biggest gripe was the twist at the end. It served to just confuse the viewer and draw down the intensity at the climactic showdown between Batman and Bane.

Instead of being some heightened badass mastermind Bane is reduced to a mere pawn in Thalia's plan and reversed alot of the dialogue during Batman and Bane's first encounter. He says that he was born in the darkness in the prison. Turns out he wasn't. So why was darkness an ally for him? Further was Bane just another goon/hired muscle and was this all Thalia's plan? Just really undercut the main bad guy.

Further, Batman gets beat down by Bane, then they meet again and Batman is hulked up and just flat out beats bane the second round. What a disappointment. Would have been much better to demonstrate that yes, Batman is not Bane's physical equal therefore Batman would have to outsmart Bane to beat him. Would have been a much more satisfying ending and a full rounding out of the Batman character instead of a glorified brawler.

Anyway, I like that Thalia was in the movie I just would have written it differently to show the relationship between the two earlier and to then have conflict between the three characters as the final climax.

Other things I didn't really like. The pacing was really stuttered. After Gotham is sequestered the movie really slows down with no obvious reason why. Bane is largely forgotten about after that until the final showdown further eroding the viewers feelings towards him.

Anyway, I'll give it another chance but pretty mediocre. Too bad.
