I'm looking to finally make the big move out of the parents house and planning on moving into an apartment downtown with a buddy of mine. We're looking for something not too expensive, and would like to be in a reasonably nice part of downtown as well. My knowledge of downtown Calgary is fairly limited and I am not too sure which areas of downtown are regarded as sketchy/shady, but definitely would like to avoid those places.

So the question is... what are some of the sketchy areas of downtown to stay away from (15 ave?)?

And on the contrary... what are some of the nicer areas of downtown to live in?
