That's not unexpected, but feels unnecessary. Hopefully it doesn't go all the way back to Bruce's parents being shot. Year One might be a cool direction, although it treads a lot of ground covered in Begins. Maybe Batman Beyond? Or how about fast forwarding to The Dark Knight Returns?

One thing's for sure - whoever steps in to these films next from a creative perspective has large shoes to fill.
