^ Yep. It looks like this guy has an agenda. Whether he's crazy or not I'm sure will be debated. If not legally "crazy" you have to be a little deranged to believe that shooting up a theatre of innocents is a solution to anything.

Regarding the gun issue... I don't think tighter gun controls would have prevented this. We could do the same thing in Canada with enough time, money and determination. Yes, it would be a little harder but this guy seemed determined to pull it off. That said, the more guns that are out there the more likely that someone will get shot with one.

But I think the bigger issue, which is at the root of this particular incident is the culture of violence that permeates many parts of American culture. There seems to be an underlying acceptance of violence as a means to resolve certain issues. This spans incidents like an argument leading to a shooting to a home owner killing an intruder to gang violence to an incident like this one. When did killing another human being become an option to solve a problem outside of war? I guess, to answer my own question, it's happened throughout the world in human history but in many "civilized" parts of modern society it's been largely reduced. But for some reason, not in many segments of the US subculture.
