The one thought that's been going through my head on this (keeping on the thread topic of gun control), is that gun ownership reminds me of slavery.
At some point in the past it was okay to have slaves. It was almost a right to own a slave. There was nothing wrong with it. Fortunately some people fought to have this changed and society matured.
I think gun ownership falls somewhere along that line of thinking. It's stupid, unnecessary and only in practice because there's some archaic piece of paper stating that it's a right and as such there's a ton of immature grown men and women who feel they have to own guns. Funny that the constitution also included mention of slavery and it's been abolished. Gun ownership should go the way of extreme religion, slavery, lack of women's rights, torture, prejudice (not yet gone), small pox, etc. Things that we as a species are smart enough to get rid of but for some dumb ass reason still manage to fail.
We have pet stores that are banned from selling fluffy, cuddly, cute dogs, health food stores banned from selling ephedrine, liquor stores not selling to under 18/19/21, and we can't ban the sale of a gun from a walmart, or sporting goods store because of some ignorant belief that it interferes with rights.
I wonder if the dead people were given a few options.
1. Ban sale of guns
2. Encourage more guns in the hope that someone would have shot the assailant before they shot you.
Which one would they take?
Fortunately I'm alive and can voice my opinion and know which one I'd take
