I mean, it's cool I suppose, but even if that didn't kill you immediately (which it would), the pain would force you unconscious anyway.
But I guess that's what makes this show what it is. Just me being cynical.

Actually the thing that bugged me about that scene was a little continuity error. I'll get to in a moment.
First I do agree it was a bit of a cheat, but when I saw the full thing, I thought it was so cool I didn't care.
Ok the error. Gus is missing the wrong side of his face!
The bell, and the bomb are on the right side of the chair. And Gus' face is wounded on the right side.
However, obviously if he is facing Salamanca, their rights are on opposite sides!
So the hole should have been on the left side of his face. I suspect it was because of set limitations, they could only shoot it from one side.
