That's the point you're missing. One firearm is functionally equally deadly if misused than the next. They all do the same thing. Point, pull, bang. If you would like to be familiarized or an introduction to firearms I'm more than happy to oblige.

The difference is that an assault rifle has much more power and is much more effective in engagement than handguns. They're capable of much longer range attacks with more accuracy to more lethal effect. I doubt one could get similar results with two 9mm Glocks as they would with an AK-47 (then again, I'm not a gun expert. AK-47s are out of date while Glocks are pretty common for a reason).
I can find little reason for one to ever have firepower of that calibre. The only time that comes to mind is hunting.
