I guess the point of the thread is think long and hard about getting a pet.
Friends of mine recently got a third dog - and she then complained how much work an extra dog is - I was sort of stunned at that comment.
My kids have wanted a dog for a while now, but my thought is that we leave the hosue at 7 am to go to work/school/daycare and we usually don't get back home until 5pm. Getting a dog does nto seem to make sense for our family, or the dog.

Cat declawing is probably similar to somebody using plyers to remove your finger and toe nails.
And I agree with you on the dog, if your house is empty for 10+ hours a day that isn't fair to the dog at all.
