I had a good time playing Fallout: New Vegas. The biggest problem was initially there were a lot of bugs, but they mostly cleaned it up.

Really depends on the type of games you like. I like FPS myself, which NV most definitely isn't. There is a lot of RPGish elements: managing your inventory, customizing your character stats to suit your playstyle, running around and talking to people to solve quests. So for the action, it isn't really that intense. I often resorted to using V.A.T.S. (see video) to target and kill enemies, if only because the gore is pretty sweet:

It's a huge game. Apparently I spent 60 hours on just one playthrough. I pretty much completed every side quest. So by the end, I was actually a little bored, and just finished it off for completeness.

I know some like NV better than Fallout 3. I found them pretty similar, and maybe in the end liked Fallout 3 better.

If you really want the best deal, you can wait until the last day of the sale (July 23). If it goes on sale for cheaper, great. If not, you can buy it on the last day for the same price as now.
