It’s not the show he’d like to bring to Calgary — one more reminiscent of the last time he hit Cowtown in 1996, selling out three 15,000-seat shows — but he promises that one’s coming.

Brooks has one more of three daughters he has to see off to college, then he wants to tour again, and he says as a country music act you just can’t do a tour without a stop in Calgary.

He said he’ll bring the freakshow then.

This time out, country’s humblest crooner said it’s just him, a guitar and hopefully 15,000 fans who have studied up on their lyrics and are willing to sing along.

“This one was all selfish for me — this one was getting to say I played the 100th anniversary of one of the greatest rodeos ever,” he said.

“It’s not the show that, good lord willing, is coming.

“Last time I was in Calgary I was in my 30s, I’m 50 now and I’m easily 240 pounds ... you’ve got an old fat guy coming out there (and) I’m going to need all the help I can get.”

Since this is coming from his mouth, I'd assume its true.
