You'll still need some gold to get you started, not sure how much you have, either way I think you'll be stuck farming Act 1 regardless of Demon Hunter, Barb or Monk.
Although, apparently, the double tornado build for barbs can be extremely effective and doesn't require all that expensive gear to get started. Might want to look that up if you do decide to make a new char.

Not sure about Bash, but I've used Earthquake a lot in Inferno, might not be the absolute most effective skill but still far from useless in my opinion.
