I don't care what the law calls for, jail costs the tax payers $100,000 per year per inmate, so that is: (3/12)*3people*100,000 = $75,000, which doesn't include the loss of money from income taxes they may pay.
I don't understand why any person who calls themselves a Conservative would want to waste public money for something as dumb as this. They have to pay, I agree, but seize their assets, don't charge me money for their mistake.

So I guess we should just shutdown all jails because they are too costly. Let's just give everyone house arrest instead. $75000 is a small price to pay to help prevent similar crimes in the future. If they are just going to get a slap on the wrist, then what motivates them and others to correct their behavior in the future?
I just have to shake my head in disbelief when I see posts like yours.
