They are ear plugs that attenuate volume as opposed to blocking sound. They haveI wear them for all rock type concerts now as I usually choose to be up front at the stage. They scrub off lots of volume while allowing highs to be still heard. I find them to be far superior to foam earplugs. I bought them in Winnipeg before a concert a couple of years ago at a music store (instruments). If I remember correctly they were less than 20 bucks. I found my ears far less fatigued than if I went without and I could still have clarity in hearing high end and talking to people during breaks.
