My (incredibly uneducated) guess is that the redeem button only exists because they've reskinned the iTunes section containing podcasts. The redeem button is all over iTunes for obvious reasons. If apple controlled or even housed the podcasts it might make sense, but all apple is doing is pointing to a podcast hosted elsewhere. I think podcast creators know the appeal is their content is free. I can't imagine more than a handful being able to successfully pulling off a paid version.
