So in the interests of being unbiased about Chrome on iOS, I was doing some more research - while it's true that Chrome falls down on synthetic Javascript benchmarks, there are details emerging that Chrome on iOS implements their own network stack for handling HTTP requests, as well as pre-fetching (controllable as well wifi only/3g), etc. So it's using Safari's webkit to render, as required, but there is more than just a skin of UI controls layered on top.
I'm trying it, in conjunction with Chrome on the desktop for the weekend and seeing if I'll settle in and make it my new combo.
