Nope. Gateway Blvd. is a relatively recent (8-10 years somewhere in there) change. It was previously Calgary Trail North / South until a few on Edmonton city council just had to change it to reflect Edmonton's status as the gateway to the fast growing and economically important 'north' (read Fort McMurray). It was changed in 2001, for a cost of $300,000, and I don't think that factored in the cost to businesses that had to change their addresses on everything.
What always made me laugh about this is that Calgary Trail is/was the main route to and from Calgary in Edmonton, but Edmonton Trail in Calgary hasn't been a major route to Edmonton for decades. Yet, if you were to suggest renaming Edmonton Trail, people would laugh in your face for being an idiot.
Of course, Edmonton Trail just kind of meanders along and gets uglier and uglier the further north you go, so in that way, it's like a little piece of Edmonton in Calgary.
