The 'so' part makes it particularly bad. Randomness can't be measured in degrees. Something is either random or it isn't. Usually it isn't. There are lots of fields where randomness is a legitimate topic of discussion, from science to mathematics to games of chance, but the trend of young people using 'random' as a synonym for unexpected or unlikely is really unfortunate. In some ways, it's the new 'karma' or 'ironic'.
