The Blue Jays literally gave away spare parts and Cory Patterson, who is just god awful. Rzepcynski was decent for 2 playoff series, and his having a truly awful 2012 season. Right now the Cardinals have nothing to show for that trade, but they did win a World Series, how much those players contributed to it can be argued, but hey, it's a world series ring and they got some relief pitching help.
From a Jays perspective, we gave away barely anything and now have a player at one of the most skilled positions in baseball, for a long time.

Once from Toronto is the key phrase with his Dad. He had issues with multiple people in the Cards organization and that likely wasn't going to change. Perhaps the deal to TO made him and/or his son realize what they were doing wasn't the best thing for him.
The Cards still have Rzepczynski and Rasmus leaving was very much addition by subtraction. Getting him off the team with his attitude was a good thing and he has been easy to replace both last year and this year.
As for it being argued how much they contributed no it really can't be. The bullpen was huge for the Cards and Rzepcynski was a huge part of that. Without making that deal and improving the bullpen and getting Jackson there is no way the Cards make the play-offs let alone win the WS the way they did.
I am glad that you are happy with Rasmus but the Cards are much better off because of making that deal and much better off without Rasmus on their team.
