Although I never went to one of these (it DID seem a bit too granola for me), I had no problem whatsoever with the road closure. But the spin in the media really positioned it as a "hippies vs. cars" type of argument. Closing 1/2 of a road on a weekend shouldn't really ruffle as many feathers as it did (even in Calgary), but if you're going to shut a road down, I'd like to see a little more than people meandering around aimlessly on a road mere metres away from a pathway designed for said meandering. Food trucks/booths and arts vendors would have made it more appealing and would have justified the road closure.
