Quebec wallows in its cult of victimhood

It’s often difficult to be a rational progressive in Quebec. One may have legitimate arguments in favour of a tuition freeze, or even free post-secondary education, but they must defend their positions alongside those who label the current conflict “The Maple Spring” – because the struggle to pay $325 less next year in tuition is akin to the Arab struggle to oust murderous dictators.
The irony is that Quebec’s sub-par, under-funded and over-bureaucratized education system could be in large part responsible for the perpetuation of this widespread victim mentality. It may only end with an overhaul of our learning institutions, or an uprising – whichever comes first.

Protesting students may be collecting photos, videos and placards as souvenirs from these heady revolutionary days, but those who are arrested and fingerprinted may end up with a memory that haunts them for years.
Even without a conviction, some run-ins with the law cannot be completely erased, which could make it difficult for some to travel to the United States or get a job, legal experts and border control agents say.
