For example, an 18 year-old kid can go get a goddamn job and make their own food when they are in school. Or they can move out of rez, then they wouldn't whine for the rest of their lives about how crappy the food was in university. That 80-year-old woman, she doesn't have that option.
Clearly some of you people don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about. There is a reason a person lives in a long term care facility -- because they ####ing well need care, long term. They can't look after themselves. Do you understand? It's not an able-bodied kid being fed crappy food for eight months until they grow up enough to not live in rez.
People in an LTC are going to be their for the rest of their lives, and they know it. Serving them a meal that isn't fortified mush isn't too much to ask.
Anyway, for all the high rollers who are setting themselves up to live in luxury when you can't go to the bathroom by yourself -- you are going to be dropping 20 grand a month, possibly for decades, to cover it. Are you saving that much? You might even have to pay for two people.

The easier argument to make would be to say that kids in rez deserve to have better food to and that when governments provide food for people their hould be a minimum standard. Instead you make the argument that the elderly deserve more because they cant provide for themselves. Well they had 60 years to provide for themselves, the student hasnt had any. They may also have a family that they raised who can help and if they did a good job should help.
If you believe that fortified mush is good enough for students than fortified mush should be good enough for seniors.
