I saw much the same thing. If someone ordered a burger without pickles and such, the meat patty was dipped in the grease vat before being put on the bun. If it was extremely busy It was routine for someone to drop the patty on the greasy floor, scoop it up and place it on the bun. Lets just say special orders during a busy period was not welcome.

Making the tartar sauce was gross. Putting all the canned ingrediants into a large tub and then putting your hands in to mix it all up.

We had one crazy guy that would take dead flies and tie strings around them and dip em the fry vats.

Of course there were the mice that were scurrying around the basement and the kitchen. Traps were always set but a few managed to always stay alive.
