Phoenix just went through an economic class that is hurting all their sports teams and it's a big reason for the struggles (combined with their first real success being this season).
How soon we forget how the Flames/Oilers were close to having to move when the Canadian economy was in the tank and the teams were consistantly losing.

There is an enormous difference though. Yes, the economy hasn't been great over the the past 3-4 years, but the Coyotes have never garnered support. When the economy was rolling in the couple of years prior the team was still having problems.
I don't think its a US v. Canada issue either. A lot of posters have noted that they would be just as happy to see the franchise in a market where hockey is appreciated. Sure, maybe that means Quebec, but there are posts about Seattle, and I don't think you would see a ton of complaining if the Hartford Whalers were back in the picture either.
