You can't, but that $6-10k goes
towards the payment. If you spend it on a diamond ring instead, you'll have to find the money elsewhere. For many young couples, it's a huge struggle trying to come up with enough money to make a down payment for their first home. Why put yourself an extra $6-10k behind for no reason?
