I used to preorder a lot of JRPGs from EB games back in the PS1 days. They usually come with cool free stuff (like a clock for Chrono Cross, or a sock puppet for Lunar: Eternal Blue). The free stuff was awesome when I was a kid. Now that I'm older, I don't preorder since the free stuff doesn't really interest me anymore.
Also when I was a kid, psychologically parting with $60 in one shot was kind of painful, but splitting it into $30 for the deposit and then $30 when I actually pick up the game a few months later seemed better.
