Don't know which method is best, but for me I start of with a good walk to loosen up my legs a bit and then run at a decent pace for a prolounged period of time (40-50 minutes now) before doing a walk cool down. Before I had the endurance to do this I did two 5 minute walk (3.5 mph), 10 minute run (+6.0) intervals.
