Do make sure you get him out of there. I once came across an attic that had squirrels in it; they had free reign for at least one full year. It was destroyed. Most of the insulation in the entire attic had been relocated to plug up the eaves and venting along them. Entire 2x4 Trusses had been chewed right through to make easy freeways for them. They are destructive little animals.
Squirrels are also territorial. Once they are in somewhere, they'll always want back. So, once you get them out, you need to make the original location undesirable or relocate the squirrel. Fixing their entry point will likely result in them simply chewing a new one.
A place like UFA will sell squirrel traps. Large rectanglar cages with a one way door at one end. They go into get the bait (grain, peanuts, or peanut butter work great), and the door closes. From there, you can either relocate them far, far, far away, or kill them. It's up to you .... really, they are just cute rats with tails.
