The weird thing is you can get sectioned on a reletively minor crime, I had a kid who pushed a cop and so was done for resisting arrest, but as he had an IQ of around 68 and was also possibly psychotic, he was found not guilty due to diminished responsibility and then proceeded to spend 4 years in a secure hospital when he would have spent at best a month in on the equivalent criminal sentance.
It is a very strange world when you start visiting pysch units.
