Well thats the only advantage the NDP and Liberals have is time. Rae and Clownclair could both be gone in the next 18 months and that would still give them 18 more months before the election. In my opinion Mulcair will be gone by that point (as he has an awful case of FIM disease), and Rae already failed in his leadership bid and sucked badly as Ontario's Premier so I can't see him getting support from Ontario which he'll need to become leader.

Of course there's still the option that the two parties (NDP and Liberal) could consolidate into one, adopt a new more dynamic leader and that would basically ensure Harper will be on the way out the door, assuming a unified party goes more the Liberal route (to the center) than the NDP route (to the left).
