how come when Banner turns into Hulk the first time, he's absolutely uncontrollable and attacks anyone he comes across, friend or enemy? And then at the end as Hulk again, he's completely able to recognize who he's fighting with and fighting against? Plot hole? Or something I'm missing?

When Bruce first changed he completely lost control over his emotions which is why the wasn't in control the first time it happened, the second time he changed he focused all of the anger he has inside of him (when he said that he is always angry) on one specific thing (the alien invasion) which is why he didn't go on a random rampage. So this pretty much means theirs two Hulks: one that is an uncontrollable monster and the other that he can control by focusing on a specific thing
