Ha! It's the defensive mindset that helped to propel them to the title last night.

That above-average team backstopped by a great goalie totally dominated last night. I was sitting at the Oil Kings blueline six rows up. Some comments:

The OK were dominant last night and gave Portland very little. While Portland has better elite talent, the OK are totally deep. Their team defense is outstanding. While Portland more depends on individuals, the OK are a team in the truest sense of the word. They get scoring from every line and from the defense. Everybody handles his responsibilities at both ends of the ice. They shut down Portland's big guns last night. Bart was not much of a factor.

Two low-class moves last night by Portland players. In the third period when the result was obvious, Ross jumped an OK player had him pinned and was flailing away. Brutal display. After the game Carruth took a swipe at a TV camera.

I'm a big OK fan but I don't expect them to win the Memorial Cup. I think they'll be in tough. This team is very young and this was to be a developing year. Next season was to be their year to shine. That they did it one year ahead of schedule is remarkable. They have to be a very early favourite to repeat in the WHL next season (yes, I know lots can happen).

Good luck to the boys as they head east for the Mem Cup!
